With current Production Tax Credits for wind set to expire at the end of 2012, the US wind business is getting nervous.

PTCs may be absolutely necessary for the wind sector to grow in the United States, AWEA Chief Economiost Elizabeth Solerno says in this video from the recent American Wind Energy Association conference, WindPower 2011.

In Europe, governments’ feed-in-tariffs have substantially supported the tremendous growth of the wind business. In 2010, 9.3 GW of wind were installed in the EU alone, according to European Wind Energy Association, and in 2009, wind accounted for 39% of all new capacity installed, compared to gas (25%) and solar photovoltaics (17%).
