This second video in a 3-part series from the Advanced Biofuels Association highlights successes and challenges facing a company that seeks to commercialize next-generation, renewable transportation fuels.

Sapphire Energy is the “first company to produce renewable crude oil on a continuous basis from algae biomass,” according to the ABFA. Sapphire CEO CJ Warner says the company will be producing 10,000 barrels per day of algae-based crude oil by 2018. While that only accounts for 0.05% of 2012 US crude oil consumption, it’s an important step. And similar to comments made in the first video we ran yesterday, capital market access facilitated by long-term regulatory certainty will help companies like Sapphire scale up their operations.
