Energy Independence In The Age Of Renewables
By JASON BARGLOW, NICHOLAS WILLIAMS | FOLEY & LARDNER LLPAustralia’s Bass Strait on the southern end of the country may come to be the site of the country’s first offshore wind farm and a model for the future of green energy in the land down under. California is known across the nation not just as the most populous state in the union, or the home of Hollywood, America’s entertainment capital, but also for having very progressive environmental policies. These ambitious policies have set California up to be the most environmentally friendly state in the nation as far as its power consumption goes. Last year, California, Oregon, and Washington all adopted a series of legally binding renewable energy targets, known as the Pacific Coast Action Plan on Climate and Energy (PCAPCE).
Last week Germany paved the way for a major upgrade in its renewable energy capacity when it approved onshore wind parks capable of producing 807 megawatts (MW) of power. This clean energy comes with an economic bonus since the final price tag for electricity from the project come in lower than expected requiring a subsidy of just 5.71 euro cents per kilowatt hour. Subsidies at that level mark a 20% reduction in price from previous projects, causing the German government to state competition in the industry is bringing down prices for consumers.

This will be Vivint’s first effort at penetrating the energy storage market and will allow the companies to compete against companies such as Tesla Inc, Sunrun Inc, LG Chem Ltd which offer similar products.
The winds of change are blowing strongly this year upon the nations electric grid
By Michael McDonaldSo far 2017 has been a great year for wind power with over 900 utility scale turbines installed in the first quarter of the year. These new turbines are capable of producing nearly 2000 megawatts making Q1 of 2017 the strongest quarter for wind energy production capacity in nearly a decade. Wind energy now accounts for nearly 6% of the United States total generating capacity. This figure will rise in the near future when near term pipeline projects capable of producing nearly 21,000 megawatts come online.
