On Monday the Advanced Energy Economy Institute released a new report on the United State’s clean energy revolution, documenting how renewable power and energy efficiency have become cost-competitive. “But the report can also be read as a damning indictment of America’s official energy information service, the EIA, which has been a consistent source of misinformation for the policymakers, planners and other energy stakeholders who rely on its forecasts.” [Politico]

U.S. crude futures ended Wednesday trading 1.21 percent lower after a government report was released showing an eighth straight weekly drop in crude stockpiles was offset by a large build in oil products. “A firm dollar also weighed on oil, while uncertainties about progress in the Greek debt and Iran nuclear crises led to further caution among investors and traders. “It could ultimately turn out be a choppy day from the push-and-pull between crude and products,” said Tariq Zahir, an oil bear at Tyche Capital Advisors in Laurel Hollow in New York.” [CNBC/Reuters]

Thousands of people in the Armenian capital Yerevan have participated in fresh protests against rising electricity prices by the Russian-owned provider. “At least 6,000 made a second attempt to march to the presidential residence on Tuesday evening, reports said.

Earlier, riot police with water cannon had dispersed a similar march and arrested about 200 demonstrators. Protesters are opposing a decision to increase electricity prices for households by 17-22% from 1 August.” [BBC News]
