An oil export agreement between Iraqi Kurdistan and central government leadership in Baghdad is expected in days according to reports. The two sides have been meeting at a conference in Turkey.
A new pipeline is being constructed that is expected to transport 1 million barrels of oil per day from Kurdistan to Turkey for export on to European and world markets. Exporting oil from Kurdistan to Turkey has been a contentious issue, as Baghdad wants to maintain control over the country’s oil exports and revenue, while Kurdistan also seeks a share of revenue and export rights.
“The parliamentary council will hold talks on this subject within hours, and even if there is no agreement today, I expect an agreement within a couple of days,” said Iraqi Oil Minister Abdul Kareem Luaibi. – Reuters
