Deputy Director of Policy & Electricity Markets

The Deputy Director / Director of Policy & Electricity Markets (PEM) will report to the Vice President of PEM and be responsible for critically examining proposed and current industrial, commercial and residential utility rate structures, as well as aspects of the wholesale markets for energy, capacity, and ancillary services such as frequency regulation and voltage support. Drawing on proprietary internal data, the Director will prepare statistical calculations, charts, spreadsheets and analyses demonstrating the need for and/or impact of various options for structuring rate and tariff schedules.

The majority of this work will be with the PEM team, preparing analytical work in support of SolarCity’s continuing efforts to develop and support rate structures which preserve customer’s rights to maximize energy savings with solar and other new technologies. The position will also routinely interface with other internal clients such as Structured Finance, Sales and Grid Systems Integration. The position will likely be based in the company’s San Mateo, CA headquarters; some U.S. domestic travel is required.

The ideal candidate will be independent, well organized, self-directed and a team player who effectively manages the demands of multiple simultaneous projects for clients both in-person and remotely. They should be able to build accurate, intelligible, and well-structured MS Excel-based financial models for external audiences quickly and under deadline. They should also be a good communicator who can effectively interface with senior management, customers, and investors. Finally, they should have a strong dose of practicality, stamina, common sense, and self-confidence.

MRM Planner
