The markets fell on Wednesday, led by tumbling energy and financial shares, as traders responded to signs that the economic recovery might not be as strong as anticipated.

Today’s Markets

As of 2:12 p.m. ET, the Dow Jones Industrial Average fell 103 points, or 0.7%, to 14559, the S&P 500 slumped 16 points, or 1%, to 1554 and the Nasdaq Composite dropped 37.8 points, or 1.2%, to 3217.

The Dow and broader S&P 500 both logged fresh closing higher on Tuesday as the 2013 rally rolled into the second quarter. However, sentiment was much more sour on Wednesday.

The worst performing sectors by a wide margin were financials, and energy — both seen as vulnerable to economic swings.
