In the last few years, the world has seen a steady increase in renewable energy production and consumption. Key to this increase has been the increased flow of private and government capital to these projects.

Hydropower was particularly significant in 2010, boosting the overall share of renewable fuel globally, but falling prices for wind and solar manufacturers also prompted cheaper and expanded production of clean energy infrastructure.

The strength of Brazil in renewable fuel production is one of the most striking developments in recent years as the country has used its prodigious natural resources in hydro and sugar cane development to boost production of clean electricity and renewable bio-based fuels.
