The future of nuclear energy post-Fukushima is a major outstanding question in the energy industry.

The need for reliable, large-scale electricity generation to replace steadily-retiring coal units and aging nuclear plants is obvious, and until earlier this year nuclear seemed like the best option.

Here, John Grossenbacher of the Idaho National Laboratory (INL) discusses the future role of nuclear in the US energy portfolio. The scientists at INL are the envy of the nuclear industry, as they proceed with supercomputer-enabled tests that could redefine the future of the energy business in the US and globally.
