Monday morning the White House hosted a press event to announce its various smart grid initiatives intended to modernize, upgrade and transform the American electricity grid.

Along with its various initiatives, the administration released this document, produced by the cabinet-level National Science and Technology Council, to guide actions and provide a roadmap for energy policy.

At a time when budgets are tight for the foreseeable future, this document is aimed at closely monitoring and guiding energy policy. It also clearly explains where the newly budgeted federal dollars will be going and what the administration hopes to achieve.

The report “highlights the opportunities that a modernized electric system provides for America,” the administration said in releasing the report.
