The energy industry – oil & gas sector in particular – is bracing itself for a massive wave of retirements over the short to medium term, which has been dubbed “The Great Shift Change.” As the industry prepares for this turnover, companies are looking to the next generation of candidates with skills ranging from finance, geology, engineering, law, etc.

Additionally, lots of exciting opportunities are opening up in various renewable energy sectors as technological advancements rapidly disrupt traditional utility business models. The energy efficiency business is also growing by leaps and bounds, as significant cost saving benefits associated with using less energy are an easy sell for most businesses.

Sr HR Analyst – Global Payroll Processor 

Anadarko; The Woodlands, TX, US

Job Summary 

The full-time Sr HR Analyst – Global Payroll Processor will be located at Anadarko’s corporate headquarters in The Woodlands, TX.  This position reports to the Global Payroll Manager within the Human Resources function. This is a fast-paced payroll role; therefore the position requires an experienced Payroll professional who is able to multi-task and prioritize efficiently.

As a critical member of the payroll team, this position will process/manage all tasks related to payroll processing for the global payrolls (paying local nationals in several countries). This includes, but is not limited to: payroll accounting, tax filings, expatriate processing, account reconciliations and audit compliance.

The successful candidate will demonstrate an ability to work effectively under pressure, independently and within a collaborative team-oriented culture using sound judgment in decision-making. The payroll processor must be detail-oriented, analytical and able to work well under tight deadlines in a changing environment.  The successful candidate must be able to perform multiple tasks effectively and concurrently.

This role requires excellent communication and customer service to internal and external customers. As required, this position will collaborate with HR and other departments to create efficient processes, troubleshoot, research issues, and assist with root cause analysis and recommendations.  This position is accountable for the stability and quality of the global payroll process.

Responsibilities 

·         Oversee complex payroll in multiple countries

·         Process global payroll; including expatriate, shadow payrolls and local nationals

·         Maintain and update Global Payroll system

·         Liaise with Payroll vendor for various requests and/or issue resolution

·         Process accurate employee pay calculations

·         Research discrepancies with payroll information (e.g. time sheets, leave time etc.) for the purpose of ensuring accuracy and adherence to procedures prior to processing

·         Report any payroll issues to the appropriate level/department

·         Audit payrolls and prepare payroll journal entries

·         Reconcile account balances and comply with related policies, practices and regulations

·         Create ad-hoc reports on demand

·         Run payroll output interfaces and reports, transmit to outside vendors for processing

·         Work with third party tax advisors on expatriate issues

·         Provide customer service to employees in the areas of pay and taxes

·         Maintain employee historical data

·         Collaborate with HR and IT on maintenance and enhancements

·         Assist with special projects as needed

·         Review system updates and follow up with HRIS staff as required

Qualifications

·       5 + years of experience in multi-state U.S. and global payroll required

·         Working knowledge of payroll best practices

·         Strong knowledge of federal, state and local regulations

·         Ability to analyze and resolve difficult problems independently

·         Ability to deal sensitively with confidential material

·         Strong work ethic and team player

·         Excellent verbal and written communication

·         Ability to communicate and work effectively with all levels within the company

·         Strong organizational, multi-tasking and prioritization skills

·         ADP/Ceridian experience a plus

·         Strong computer and analytical skills, including proficiency in Excel

·         SAP Payroll experience required

Education & Credentials 

High School Diploma or GED required.

Bachelor’s degree preferred.

CPP (Certified Payroll Professional) preferred.

Travel Requirements 

There is no travel required for this position.

Work Conditions & Physical Requirements

Work is normally performed in a typical inside office environment. Basic safety precautions may be required outside of the office.

Work Schedule  

This office-based position is eligible for a 9/80 work schedule.

This position requires flexible working hours to accommodate payroll processing and could require work on holidays.

Principal Regional Geologist

Job Description: 

The New Venture Basin Evaluation Team within the Shell Upstream America’s Exploration (UAX) organization is tasked with identifying and evaluating new, material growth opportunities for conventional exploration in the Americas. The organization is looking for a Principal Regional Geologist for the New Venture Basin Evaluation Team.

Responsibilities:
The Principal Regional Geologist is responsible for regional analysis, basin evaluation, PBE, prospectivity, and strategy/competition landscape for New Ventures activity in the Americas. The position will execute and ensure world-class New Ventures evaluations of new opportunities in the Americas. Build leading-edge, proactive knowledge base of potential petroleum systems in most prospective American basins. Mentor and coach less experienced New Ventures geoscientists.

In addition:

  • Drive a workstation and thoroughly investigate a seismic data set.
  • Subsurface integration of diverse data types to form a top-quality evaluation of an opportunity when there is typically a dearth of data.
  • Quick assessment of critical issues for region, basin, play and prospect.
  • Flexibility for rapidly changing business conditions in the New Ventures environment.
  • Data room skills : incoming/outgoing opportunities.
  • Effective interactions with technical and business stakeholders.
  • UAX New Ventures covers all “white space” areas where Shell does not have an existing venture.

Special Challenges:

  • Lack of data in many frontier basins and need for new data.
  • Short timeframe to make technical recommendations on business decisions.
  • High dependence on regulators for timing of evaluation and data release.
  • Use reduced industry activity as an opportunity to identify the best hydrocarbon basins, develop a deep understanding and unique insights that will open up opportunities for entry ahead of the competition;
  • Developing staff to the right experience levels, mindset and skills that will set up Shell as a leader in exploration growth for the future.

 Desired Skills:

  • Must be a U.S. Citizen or hold a valid work visa that does not require sponsorship in order to legally work full-time in the United States
  • Master’s degree in Geology or related field required. PhD preferred.
  • Minimum of fifteen (15+) years of new ventures experience in different basins, plays, and prospect styles
  • Strong track-record in exploration new ventures deal delivery
  • Significant ability to get/keep stakeholders aligned;
  • Significant ability to drive project performance and integration across organizations, beyond technical delivery;
  • Strong Commercial skills and network;
