British Government Signs A Deal For New Nuclear Power Plant

On September 11, 2015, the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission (FERC) approved a winter reliability program (WRP) for the New England Independent System Operator (ISO-NE) region for winters 2015-2016, 2016-2017, and 2017-2018, until new market-based performance incentives take effect. From the two competing proposals submitted by ISO-NE and New England Power Pool (NEPOOL), the FERC selected NEPOOL’s proposal, which would expand the previous WRP with procurements for oil, liquefied natural gas (LNG), and demand response (DR).

At the FERC’s winter preparedness meeting, held on September 17, the independent system operators and regional transmission organizations (ISOs/RTOs) described their abilities and actions to address winter reliability challenges. In addition to region-specific actions, the ISOs/RTOs described their efforts to address situational awareness, coordinate operations with natural gas pipelines, and improve gas-electric communications to enhance their operational procedures.
