The energy industry – oil & gas sector in particular – is bracing itself for a massive wave of retirements over the short to medium term, which has been dubbed “The Great Shift Change.” As the industry prepares for this turnover, companies are looking to the next generation of candidates with skills ranging from finance, geology, engineering, law, etc.

Additionally, lots of exciting opportunities are opening up in various renewable energy sectors as technological advancements rapidly disrupt traditional utility business models. The energy efficiency business is also growing by leaps and bounds, as significant cost saving benefits associated with using less energy are an easy sell for most businesses.

Facilities Engineer – GOM Mechanical Integrity 

Anadarko; The Woodlands, TX, US

Summary:

S tructural Integrity Engineer with experience in engineering design, inspection, and maintenance activities.  Position will assist GOM Technical Services Group in asset integrity management focusing on the structural systems of the hull, topsides, and moorings of deepwater production facilities.

Qualifications:

  • Minimum of 2+ year experience in Engineering related work, preferably in a structural integrity management role
  • Working knowledge of structural design and analysis
  • Working knowledge of strength and fatigue inspection techniques
  • Working knowledge of nondestructive testing & inspection methods
  • Working knowledge of ABS and USCG Rules & Guidelines
  • Working knowledge of project management and cost estimation
  • Experience managing UWILD, Level I, and Topsides inspections on floating offshore installations.
  • Must be able to work effectively with others while remaining self motivated
  • Strong working knowledge of Microsoft Office programs

Responsibilities:

  • Review and verify engineering design & analysis work for offshore facilities. Must have the capacity to lead and support inspection and maintenance activities essential to preserve these assets.  This will include the development of inspection plans and workbooks.  The ability to effectively perform inspection activities, record and capture data, then write and compile detailed inspection reports.
  • Review and decipher facility P&ID’s, Hull, Mooring, Structural and other drawings.  Provide technical guidance and support for daily integrity/operational issues.
  • Required to work with operations, facilities and outside engineering to meet Structural integrity needs and deliver projects. The position is expected to carry out project activities with minimal direction from supervisors and, at times, execute multiple medium to large size projects.  The assigned projects are to be completed safely, with high quality results that meet the requirements of the project scope within budgetary and scheduling constraints.
  • Offshore travel will be required; working outside on an active production facility in variable environmental conditions should be expected.  Confined Space Entry will be involved for some inspection activities.  Irregular hours may be required during these times.

Education

Candidate should possess a Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, with Master’s degree in Structural Engineering being preferred.  Ideally candidate should be an EIT (Engineer in Training) having passed the Fundamentals of Engineering Exam.

Travel Requirements

Position will require offshore travel and spending time offshore to complete required work scopes.

Relocation

This not eligible for domestic relocation.

Work Schedule

This position is eligible for the 9/80 work schedule.

Real Time Power Trader

A day in the life of a Shell Real Time Trader:

  • Operate Shell’s portfolio in a synchronized manner, and reduces the net cost of energy delivered to customers by adjusting the hourly pre-schedule and generation output on real time, while meeting the prudent standards of the WECC and CAISO.
  • Capitalize arbitrage opportunities in Northwest Real Time Power Market.
  • Economic dispatch of Shell’s Portfolio; generation units, transmission, and client resources.
  • Protect all Shell positions by managing power flow, potential cuts, and incremental deals.
  • Effectively bid and manage CAISO convergence bid position.
  • Communicate and coordinate with other internal and external groups and trading tenors.
  • Meet time sensitive deadlines (Accurate and timely deal entry).
  • Multi-task in a stressful and dynamic work environment.

We are looking for someone with the following Skills, Experiences and Qualifications:

  • Must have legal authorization to work in the U.S on a full-time basis for anyone other than current employer.
  • Must have a Bachelor’s Degree in business, economics, finance, engineering.
    • Equivalent combination of experience and education will be considered.
  • Minimum of 3 years of professional experience.
  • Background in power trading and/or scheduling.
  • Strong analytical and problem solving aptitude.
  • High level of attention to detail and accuracy.

Lead Software Engineer – Employee Central Job

Responsibilities

– Support the total design and implementation effort and participate in multiple projects, consistently solve complex problems, and have assigned responsibility for mentoring, support and technical project leadership for more junior engineers.

– Solve complex problems and make design decisions with focus on Performance, Scalability and usability

– Takes on innovation projects independently.  Helps coordinate and provide guidance on innovation projects.

– Define, develop, and manage the whole process of a project for partner integration, and engaging individuals across various departments or organizations to resolve problems

– Work jointly with clients to ensure business requirements are clearly communicated

– Prioritize high level tasks and requirements, and communicate to senior management the present status and future direction of the product integration strategy.  Helps other team members with prioritization.

Experiences

– 7+ years of experience in software development, engineering, or related field

– 2+ years of previous experience as a key technical lead in a small to medium sized software project

– Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering (any type) or a related field

– Excellent proven hands-on design and implementation skills

– Excellent Oral and Written communication skills

– In-depth knowledge of Unix, Windows, JVM, web and application servers

– Expert knowledge of J2EE (EJB, Servlets, JSP, XML, JDBC, JMS)

– Expert knowledge of data modeling  and data base design

– Strong knowledge of Object oriented programming concepts and Design Patterns

– Good knowledge of HTML, experience with JavaScript would be a plus

– Experience with performance tuning, caching, clustering and related concepts is preferred

– Experience with JBOSS, Seam and Hibernate would be a plus

– Work experience on web-based HR applications is a plus

– Experience with Agile development methodology with short release cycles.
