The energy industry – oil & gas sector in particular – is bracing itself for a massive wave of retirements over the short to medium term, which has been dubbed “The Great Shift Change. As the industry prepares for this turnover, companies are looking to the next generation of candidates with skills ranging from finance, geology, engineering, law, etc.

Additionally, lots of exciting opportunities are opening up in various renewable energy sectors as technological advancements rapidly disrupt traditional utility business models. The energy efficiency business is also growing by leaps and bounds, as significant cost saving benefits associated with using less energy are an easy sell for most businesses.

Lead Global Tax Planning Analyst 

Anadarko; The Woodlands, TX, US

Job Summary
This position will be located in Anadarko’s corporate headquarters in The Woodlands, Texas, and will be a member of the Global Tax Planning team. This position will report to the Director of Global Tax Planning and Controversy, and will be primarily responsible for providing tax planning advice with respect to the Company’s Corporate Tax activities.

Qualifications
The successful candidate will ideally have at least (8) years of experience with federal income tax, preferably a combination of experience with a Big 4 public accounting firm and/or a large law firm, as well as in a corporate tax department . In order to be considered, a candidate must have corporate tax experience, including a background of proven ability to handle complex transactions. Ideal candidate will possess the majority of the following qualifications:

  • Substantial experience with analyzing the corporate income tax issues relating to complex business transactions and financings commonly undertaken by a large, publicly traded company including, but not limited to: corporate formation and liquidations, dividend distributions, acquisition and dispositions of assets and / or corporate stock, hedging transactions, project financing, corporate debt and equity issuances, and like-kind exchanges. The experience should include both domestic and international operations.
  • Experience with federal tax controversy matters, including audits and tax liquidation.
  • Outstanding interpersonal communications skills at all levels of the organization, commercial focus, and a team-oriented approach.
  • Strong writing and tax research skills, detail-oriented and a “self-starter” with the ability to prioritize workflow and meet demanding deadlines, in a fast-paced environment.
  • Ability to understand general business operations, issues and dynamics beyond the scope of basic tax issues.

Responsibilities
This position will principally serve the Company’s Global Tax Planning and Controversy department. This position will be responsible for tax planning and advice on a wide variety of corporate tax matters, as well as tax controversy matters. Work products would include legal memoranda, step plans, and oral communications with tax department personnel and business stakeholders.

Education
Juris Doctorate degree from an ABA accredited law school ideal and an undergraduate degree in Accounting would be preferred.

Certifications/ Licenses
Candidate should have passed the state bar exam and be a licensed member of the bar. LLM is not required, CPA is a plus

Travel Requirements
The percentage of travel required for this position is less than 25%.

Work Schedule
This position is eligible for the 9/80 work schedule.

Lease Analyst 

Shell; Houston, TX, US

Position Description:

  • Independently analyze and interpret applicable Petroleum Contracts (PC) to calculate accurately and provide timely set-ups, payments, and obligations.
  • Independently maintain records to ensure payments made to private, corporate, and government owners are in compliance with all applicable laws, statutes, regulations, and PC.
  • At any one time, support a number of PC opportunities across the full EP life cycle with knowledge of ownership laws, statutes, regulations and applicable systems.
  • Independently internally interface with the Technical Asset/Organization and other functional departments regarding PC services. Externally interface with owners and/or government(s) regarding PC issues/matters.
  • Generate standard monthly/periodic reports on payment and/or acreage information requested by technical teams and/or land operations to be used for analysis and decision making. Assist in producing ad-hoc reports.
  • Support due diligence activities related to oil & gas property acquisition, divestiture, and merger.

Revenue Analyst Job 

SuccessFactors; San Francisco, CA, US

This position reports to the Director of Revenue Operations and will be directly involved in day to day revenue operations and revrec team support.

Duties and Responsibilities: 

  • Assist with monthly revenue close, revenue reporting and reconciliation.
  • Review booked transactions documentation and order entry to ensure proper accounting per SAP Policy and IFRS as well as SF Company policies.
  • Assist Managers of Revenue accounting in performing internal control procedures to ensure SOX compliance.
  • Perform ad-hoc revenue performance analysis.
  • Prepare global revenue and deferred revenue reports to support internal and external reporting requirements

Skills and Experience:

  • Strong attention to detail, well organized, and able to work effectively in a high-paced environment
  • 3-4 years relevant experience in a publicly traded software Company
  • Knowledge of revenue recognition US GAAP/IFRS, particularly SOP 97-2, SAB 104, EITF 08-1 and EITF 00-21 as well as other technical accounting literature: EITF’s, TPA etc.
  • Software on-Demand experience helpful
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills as well as superior problem solving abilities.
  • Strong affinity for data mining, analysis, and ad hoc analysis requests.
  • Advanced Excel skills required and ability to work with and analyze and interpret large volumes of transactional data.

Qualifications:

  • Desired candidates will be creative problem solvers with tendency “to think outside the box”
  • Bachelor’s degree in accounting or finance
  • CPA or other similar professional designation  is desired but not requirement
