The energy industry – oil & gas sector in particular – is bracing itself for a massive wave of retirements over the short to medium term, which has been dubbed “The Great Shift Change. As the industry prepares for this turnover, companies are looking to the next generation of candidates with skills ranging from finance, geology, engineering, law, etc.

Sr. Civil Structural Engineer 

Shell; Assen, Netherlands

Responsibilities:
In this role, the key challenge is to develop a detailed understanding of the basis for design, guidelines and fit-for-purpose engineering and research required for the full scale implementation of structural upgrading of buildings, industries and infrastructure taking into account the local environment and community. The project has a high non-technical risk and you’re expected to be able to manage this while still delivering results. Other responsibilities are:

– Review of technical engineering documents,
– Contribution to technical evaluation of bids
– Provision of technical support and advice for the full scale implementation of the Structural Upgrading measures.
– Coaching of junior engineers in the engineering team.

Requirements:
MSc / BSc in Civil and/or Structural Engineering preferably with experience related to dynamic analyses, earthquake engineering and/or geotechnical (soils, foundations) substantial experience in Oil and Gas projects (various project phases) with a large civil element.
– Experience with Eurocodes and International codes and standards.
– Knowledge of Finite Element Methods is preferred
– Able to work in a stressful environment with a lot of public interfaces
– Team player with enthusiastic and pro-active behaviour and the ability to deliver timely quality results as part of a team.
– In view of the work area and interfaces with public bodies fluent speaking and writing in Dutch is strongly preferred.
– Experience in both design and engineering with good knowledge about execution of Civil & Structural works.

Wireless Operations Engineer 

Conoco Philips; Bartlesville, OK, US

Description:

ConocoPhillips’ Information Technology (IT) provides technical services to the ConocoPhillips network.

The position reports to the Supervisor of Wireless Services and is responsible for designing, implementing and supporting a broad range of communications networks such as cellular, PTP, PMP, LMR, 802.11, Mesh, and SCADA.

This position will also have responsibility for leading and championing projects to implement a broad range of communications technologies and will contribute to setting global corporate standards for hardware, security, maintenance, and support.

Responsibilities may include:

Support various wireless technologies:

  • 802.11 access points
  • 802.11 Wireless Controllers
  • Cisco WCS systems
  • Radio tower site engineering
  • SCADA communications technologies
  • Mesh technologies
  • Point to Point links
  • Point to Multi Point links
  • Motorola LMR systems
  • Cellular in-building solutions and Modems
  • VSAT and SATCOM technologies

Basic/Required:

  • Legally authorized to work in the United States
  • 5+ years of wireless technologies experience
  • 3+ years of experience in a project leadership role
  • Intermediate experience with antenna and feed line
  • Intermediate experience with Ethernet switching and routing
  • Intermediate experience with microwave link design, planning and troubleshooting
  • Willing and able (with or without reasonable accommodation) to travel up to 25% to international and domestic locations
  • Willing and able (with or without reasonable accommodation) to work weekends and be on call

Preferred:

  • Bachelor’s degree or higher in Information Technology or other IT related field
  • CCNA or above
  • Project management training
  • Experience with Cisco controllers

  • Experience working with SCADA communications networks
  • Experience working with Motorola single and multi-site LMR systems
  • Experience with radio tower design up to 300′ including loading, lighting, and alarms
  • Experience with initiating, modifying, auditing and maintaining FCC and FAA licenses
  • Familiar with R56 grounding standards
  • Link-profiling and RF propagation software experience
  • Team player able to work collaboratively in a small engineering group to deliver global solutions
  • Demonstrates a strong commitment to delivering results while maintaining a safe environment
  • Transmits information so it is received and understood in the way it was intended
  • Actively communicates and takes time to safely perform work to protect our people and environment
  • Analyzes issues and understands their business impact
