The energy industry – oil & gas sector in particular – is bracing itself for a massive wave of retirements over the short to medium term, which has been dubbed “The Great Shift Change. As the industry prepares for this turnover, companies are looking to the next generation of candidates with skills ranging from finance, geology, engineering, law, etc.

Additionally, lots of exciting opportunities are opening up in various renewable energy sectors as technological advancements rapidly disrupt traditional utility business models. The energy efficiency business is also growing by leaps and bounds, as significant cost saving benefits associated with using less energy are an easy sell for most businesses.

Control Systems Engineer – Projects 

Shell; Port Arthur, TX, US

Job Description: 

Provide Technical Assurance to Control Systems projects to ensure systems are designed within corporate and industry guidelines, while meeting the agreed upon customer specifications and reliability requirements.

  • Ensure systems are documented according to corporate and local requirements.
  • Provide assistance to Project Team to assess various project Control Systems options and help select the best fit for purpose solution.
  • Develop initial scope narrative and marked up P&IDs for CSE Projects.
  • Provide guidance to engineering contractor to ensure agreed upon project deliverables and specifications are met.
  • Work with other disciplines (i.e. Fired Equipment Specialists, Mechanical Engineering, Process Engineers) to ensure control schemes meet their requirements.
  • Facilitate integration of new equipment into existing Control Systems Infrastructure.
  • Communicate critical path issues to Project Engineer.
  • Review/Approve the following as they pertain to Control System Projects: P&IDs, Control Narratives, Logic Narratives, Cause & Effects, instrument spec sheets, control valve and IPF valve specifications, RIE/Rack Room layout, DCS/PLC hardware specifications, installation details, field cabling and junction box layout, etc.
  • Ensure that equipment specified on CS Projects are included in the approved Shell TAMAP (Technically Approved Manufacturers And Products) and utilize applicable agreements with manufacturers. Also, ensure that Control Systems equipment and designs meet requirements of Shell engineering standards (DEPs).
  • Develop derogations for any system or specification not meeting DEP requirements.
  • Provide Technical Assurance at system Factory Acceptance Tests (FATs).
  • Develop project specific training for Control Systems Engineers and Inspectors as required.
  • Provide technical input and review to corporate and local projects organizations.
  • Provide CSE Technical Review and Technical Assurance on Project related MOCs.

Regulatory Analyst – Rockies Operations

Job Summary: This position is located in Anadarko’s Evan’s Office and is a member of the Greater Wattenberg Area Regulatory Affairs team.


  • A minimum of 2 years of upstream oil and gas industry experience.
  • Oil and gas regulatory experience preferred.
  • Must be able to effectively interface with a wide variety of people, both internal and external to the company, and communicate effectively through both written word and verbal delivery.
  • Must be able to read, interpret, and apply applicable regulations.
  • Ability to manage one’s time, set priorities and manage a heavy workload is required.
  • Strong analytical and organizational skills are required.
  • A willingness to lead, take initiative and increase technical and working knowledge.
  • A working knowledge of the Microsoft suite (including word, excel, outlook power point, etc.) is required.


  • Manage inspections from the Colorado Oil and Gas Conservation Commission. Track, organize, and facilitate follow up actions to all inspections in the field.
  •  Communicate regulatory requirements (conditions of approval and best management practices) to appropriate internal teams – Perform internal compliance audits of oil and gas locations
  •  Submit notices and subsequent reports related to pressure increases during completions operations
  •  Keep business unit staff and managers updated on potential compliance issues.
  •  Organize and maintain reporting tools to keep management and stakeholders regularly apprised of trending compliance issues and potential challenges.
  • Proactively seek to improve systems, data management processes and their functionality.
  • Design and generate reports, presentations and correspondence as required.

Education: A Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration, Petroleum Land Management, Science, Engineering, Biology, or industry related field is required.

Relocation: This position may be eligible for domestic relocation.

Travel Requirements: The percentage of travel required for this position is 10-20% Work Schedule This position may be eligible for the 9/80 work schedule.

Principal Software Engineer – Tools Job

Programming Skills:

  • Expert level of development experience with Java and J2EE
  • Systems administration experience with Linux, SUSE, SLES and shell scripting
  • Productivity experience with enterprise build tools such as ANT, Maven, Gradle, Artifactory, NEXUS, SVN, Crucible/Fisheye, Team City, Jenkins, Hudson, CruiseControl, etc.
  • Eclipse plugin development, not just usage
  • Desire to expand your technical abilities with source code management systems such as GIT, Maven, and Gradle
  • Good technical skills in software development, systems/network/database administration, and the software and tools that engineers utilize
  • Ability to write high-quality, testable, maintainable and well-documented code
  • Proven ability to quickly understand and solve unique and undocumented programming problems
  • Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists

Interpersonal Skills: 

  • Exceptional communication skills, written and verbal in the English language.  Multilingual with the ability to translate complex technical topics is an added plus
