Tax Adviser – Direct Tax Audit 

Shell; Houston, TX, US

Job Description: 

Tax Advisor on Dispute Resolution State Litigation and Appeals team;
Responsible for US managing state & local income and franchise tax audits;

  • Interface with Business Controllers, Compliance Staff, and Business Tax Advisors on issues impacting income and franchise tax audits;
  • Work directly with state audit staff on managing state tax audits from start to finish;
  • Work with litigation attorneys on any post audit protest, litigation and appeals.
  • Work on other matters assigned where value and priorities dictate.
  • State income tax compliance and audit specialist with broad background in complex state and local income tax issues across multiple jurisdictions and businesses. Specific accountabilities includes the following:
  • Demonstrate an understanding of complex state and local income and franchise tax concepts and effectively apply those tax concepts to Shell business situations;
  • Thoroughly and accurately analyze information request and prepare practical responses to the situation being questioned or raised by state and local taxing authorities;
  • Prepare timely responses to Information Document Requests (IDR) that anticipate questions and potential exposures in a way that supports tax positions taken on the tax return and limits additional IDRs;
  • Review other IDR responses for consistency, completeness, and accuracy before delivering to the state tax auditor. Assist in managing and coordination of the state and local audit process by tracking and monitoring all outstanding IDRs;
  • Prepare and conduct presentations to state and local auditors by audit staff and/or operational personnel at operating locations; Closely manage all direct communications between the state & local auditors and specialists and Shell business personnel;
  • Position requires contact and interaction with all levels of Shell staff and management. Position also requires development and maintenance of good working relationships within the company, corporate business partners, state income tax compliance, tax planning and other tax controversies personnel;
  • Maintain good working relationship with the state & local auditors by keeping lines of communication open. Meet with the state auditor periodically in addition to numerous phone conversations during the course of the audit.;
  • Respond to state assessments and notices as needed;
  • Assist in the development and execution of tax audit strategies that provide a workable timeline that can close tax years as quickly as possible with the resources available;
  • Review and analyze proposed adjustments and state auditor reports to ensure accuracy;
  • Assist Tax Litigation Staff and Outside Counsel as necessary in preparing protests and responses to appeals;
  • Review state income tax work papers such as the Tax Effect Worksheets prior to the start of any audit;
  • Work with compliance and federal income tax audits as needed in filing amended returns as a result of federal RARs;
  • Special projects as needed;
  • Assist Compliance in the review of returns as may be needed during the course of the filing season;
  • Actively take part in period end, audit processes and authority reviews of the US state and local auditors
  • Respond to inspections and request from fiscal authorities coordinating related activities with tax compliance staff for US state and local direct taxes;
  • Provide support to controllers in dealing with the state and local tax auditors;
  • Establish and maintain good working relations with the state and local auditors and specialists;
  • Ensure there is a process in place for compliance with the Tax Manual of Global Tax Standards in the area of responsibility assigned and reporting of any breaches thereof in accordance with established practices;
  • Take part in special tax projects, where applicable, and play active part in the Tax community where required.
  • Support the development and implementation of standards and priority processes in accordance with the Tax Management Framework and Controls.

Process Engineer

Job Description: 

Saudi Aramco, long known for its leadership in Oil and Gas exploration, production, and refining, is seeking experienced professionals to join our growing Gas producing sector. Unconventional Resources (UR) is expanding rapidly to meet the defined Unconventional Gas to meet the local demands, and achieving them cost-effectively and safely. UR is growing into seven departments/divisions, where UR Operations department/division is a key to meet the UR goals.

The UR Operations is responsible to operate all the surface facilities which include the field wells and processing facilities where their role will be to operate the well manifolds, provide field services, maintain the facility and reduce the equipment down time, perform the PM activities, provide maintenance services in addition of providing all the technical engineering and inspection activities. The hiring is required to meet the significant increase in the operation activity level where by the end of 2017, it is estimated to have more than 270KM pipeline, 520KM flow line and five processing facilities scattered in different geographical locations
Saudi Aramco/UR is looking to appoint a Process Engineer (Engineer I) to lead the process design review, follow the construction and leading the commissioning and testing activities for the new shale gas facilities. The candidate will have a thorough understanding of plant operations, process technologies, supply and product logistics, business drivers, cost drivers, and feedstock sensitivities. In addition, he will have a detailed understanding of product properties, customer applications and requirements

The Process Engineer must also demonstrate the ability to work with multidisciplinary teams producing reports, studies and presentations that are pivotal in shaping management’s decisions • Bachelor’s Degree in Chemical Engineering, MS is preferred.

• A Professional Engineer (P.E.) or Chartered Engineer (C.Eng.) license or registration will be desirable but is not essential
• At least 10 years of experience in the industrial operation facility, Shale gas facility is preferred. Also, has a good knowledge of the Modular skids mounted process unit.
• Detailed knowledge of industry standards and procedures such as API and ASMI codes is required to support the review of company standards, project reviews, and implementation of plant modifications to process systems.
• Experience with creating/modifying PFDs, and P&IDs
• Experience with troubleshooting process equipment and systems failures, including pumps, compressors, pipe line/piping, and dehydration systems.
• Knowledge of HYSIS and other process simulation software
• Experience in creating schematics and piping diagrams
• Conduct failure analysis and provide recommendations for failed process system, sequence of event reporting
• Experience with process equipment and systems field Installation, Commissioning and testing
• Experience in specifying piping and equipment layout
• Has good experience in dealing with corrosion related issues
• Capable of communicating with multidiscipline engineers to complete projects
• Proven ability to communicate effectively with management at all levels within the organization. Capable of spotting and reconciling conflicting views and interests among different parts of the organization
• Strong written and oral communication skills. Able to communicate what are frequently complex technical, economic and commercial concepts in a clear and succinct manner to individuals and groups from diverse professional backgrounds.

The Process Engineer will be required to perform the following:
• Provide day-to-day technical support to the Operation and Maintenance to troubleshoot and fix process equipment
