Facilities Development Engineer

ConocoPhilips; Anchorage, AK, US

Description:

To oversee front-end engineering and execution of facilities and pipelines projects and other field development related activity for the Prudhoe Bay and Point Thomson fields and support the surface facility activity associated with the Alaska LNG Project (AKLNG). The Facilities Development Engineer position will have key interfaces with the Operators’ project teams and also collaborate with ConocoPhillips operated project teams, engineering groups and financial planning organization.

Existing projects within the scope of the Facilities Development Engineer that will require immediate attention include:

  • Automation, Fire & Gas
  • Facility Siting
  • Pipeline Renewal
  • Gas capacity handling
  • Facility debottlenecking

The Greater Prudhoe Area (GPA) organization manages ConocoPhillips’ interest in the non-operated Prudhoe Bay Unit (PBU) containing 10 producing fields, including Prudhoe Bay, 5 Western Satellite fields (Aurora, Borealis, Midnight Sun, Orion, and Polaris), and 4 Greater Point McIntyre Area fields (Point McIntyre, Lisburne, Niakuk, and Raven), and the Point Thomson Unit.

Anchored by the giant Prudhoe Bay field, the Greater Prudhoe Area assets are a substantial component of ConocoPhillips’ global portfolio. With deep experience, the GPA Team exerts considerable influence over the ongoing development and management of this legacy asset to maximize value for ConocoPhillips.

PBU contains immense scope and scale with seven processing facilities, six active drilling rigs, plans for rig additions to support the West End Development project, and other infill and extension drilling opportunities. To date, more than 2500 wells have been drilled in PBU. Cumulative production exceeds 17 billion barrels of oil, and in 2013, oil production totaled 318,000 bbl/day. ConocoPhillips holds a 36% working interest in the PBU assets.

Several major development programs in PBU are being evaluated for implementation in the coming years. The three largest future development projects are in the west end of the Prudhoe Bay Unit and are referred to as the West End Development (WED) program. This program is made up of three separate, but related, projects: West End Infrastructure Debottlenecking, I-Pad Development, and M and S Pad Expansions.

Associated with both the Prudhoe Bay and Point Thomson Units is the Alaska LNG Project, which is progressing into pre-FEED engineering in 2014. If constructed, this mega project will include a North Slope gas treatment plant, 800+ mile pipeline, and LNG facility in South Central Alaska. The LNG facility would ship approximately 3.5 Bcf/d of gas from the North Slope at an expected cost of $45-65B. At this time, the primary gas sources for this project are premised to be the Prudhoe Bay and Point Thomson Units. The primary infrastructure to produce gas for this project from Prudhoe Bay is already in place, but facility investments would be required to connect the existing PBU infrastructure to the gas treatment plant and to ensure the gas rates can be delivered reliably and meet sales specifications. Additionally, the Point Thomson Unit would require significant additional facilities to be installed to support the Alaska LNG Project. Review of these projects will be within the scope of the Facilities Development Engineer.

Responsibilities may include:
