The final solicitation under the 2012 NY-Sun initiative has made $60M available for 200kW+ solar PV systems.

On May 13, 2014, Governor Andrew M. Cuomo announced $60M in funding under the third round of NY-Sun Competitive PV initiative for solar projects at business, industry, and institutional sites that are large energy users. The funding opportunity, administered by the New York State Energy Research and Development Authority (NYSERDA), is the final solicitation under NY-Sun’s current design. It is available for projects larger than 200 kilowatts (kW), with proposals due in July.

Under the NY-Sun Competitive PV Program, solar installers submit funding proposals based on commitments from companies seeking solar photovoltaic (PV) installations at their sites and proposed incentive for each project. Recent NY-Sun awards totaled $18M for 22 projects to add 22 MW of solar capacity in Hudson Valley and New York City. The funding will leverage private investment to deliver a total of $55M for new PV power infrastructure projects.

The 2012 NY-Sun initiative aims to significantly increase annual solar installations through dynamic public-private partnerships. Since the program’s 2012 launch, a total of 316 MW of solar PV systems have been installed or are under contract, potentially reducing annual carbon emissions by approximately 116,000 tons.

NYSERDA highlights the funding opportunity augments New York’s position as a leader in shaping the energy future. With innovative solutions, New York is moving to a more market-based, decentralized approach facilitating energy affordability and efficiency alongside a more sustainable and resilient environment. With supportive state initiatives and federal investment tax credit (ITC) validity through 2016, the solar industry is poised for continued growth.
