Quick Take:  PricewaterhouseCoopers (PwC) conducted a worldwide survey of CIOs from many different industries. They recently released a comparison that shows how utility CIOs think of themselves, and how that differs from other CIOs.

It’s interesting stuff. In many ways, utility CIOs are doing a bit better than average. Yet many of them rate their own companies as below par. But I think the most valuable nugget is PwC’s thoughts on how to raise your Digital IQ, as shown in the chart at the bottom. – Jesse Berst

Here is what PwC learned about utility CIOs as a result of its survey:

  • Belief that Twitter will have a major impact on customer experience and retention: considerably above average
  • Concern about their ability to keep up: above average
  • Strength of relationship between CIO and CMO: above average
  • Strength of relationship between CIO and CEO: above average
  • Belief that social media is the most important emerging technology:slightly above average
  • Belief that cyber security is the most important emerging technology:slightly above average
  • Concern over the speed of technology change: slightly above average
  • Belief that technology will have a major impact: average
  • Active champions in applying technology in service of corporate strategies: slightly below average
