Facilities Engineer

Responsibilities:

  • Provide engineering expertise and collaborate with consultants/specialists in the assigned major technical support areas; including design & project engineering, contracted services, equipment specification and selection, equipment maintenance and the implementation of new technology
  • Provide advice and support to the Asset Managers for a continuous and sustainable improvement in the areas of engineering and operating practices
  • Ensure the proper and efficient operation of the Procurement function within the Distribution facilities with respect to the timely and cost effective procurement of engineering materials, equipment and services for the local organization
  • Implement investment, divestment and maintenance activities, ensuring the proper integrity of the assets, through fit for purpose allocation
  • Contribute to maintenance related analysis/reports
  • Preparation of technical, administrative and safety specification for engineering/maintenance projects
  • Work in a team-based environment with field operations, maintenance, and other technical personnel

Developmental Intern: Civil and Structural Engineering

Our Developmental Intern Program provides high performing students with the opportunity to gain a broad view of the New York Power Authority’s role as the nation’s largest state-owned public power organization. As an intern, you will be assigned a mentor to guide you with challenging assignments and to help you learn the skills needed in today’s workforce. While gaining valuable work experience, you will make real contributions to our organization. Interns will be given challenging work assignments where they will apply computer and engineering principles to the planning, analysis and design engineering tasks associated with hydroelectric, fossil fuel, and transmissions facilities. In addition, interns will be placed with key senior engineers to analyze, create and review designs, and write reports and documents for engineering tasks for NYPA’s transmission and generation facilities.

The projects that the intern will participate in are:
– St. Lawrence/FDR Project FERC Part 12 Five year Dam Safety Inspection and Potential Failure Modes Analysis
– St. Lawrence Robert Moses Power Dam Underwater Inspection – Pilot Program
– Jarvis Penstock Inspection
– Switchyard TLEM projects at BG, CEC, STL & NIA
– Other miscellaneous projects where assistance is needed and/or that would be a good learning experience for the intern.

Three to Five goals/objectives the intern should achieve by working on this project:
– Learn the major considerations when performing dam safety inspections
– Understand the mechanics behind dam safety stability analyses
– Understand what goes into planning for field inspections involving major construction equipment
– Practice designing switchyard equipment foundations for seismic forces
– Understand the basics of construction specifications
