NASA Offers Tour Of Its Offshore Membrane Enclosure For Growing Algae (OMEGA) System

Sapphire Energy and refiner Phillips 66 – comprised of ConocoPhillips’ former refining assets – have announced a joint development agreement to commercialize Sapphire’s Green Crude, an algae-based crude oil. The two companies will expand Sapphire’s ongoing testing program to ensure that Green Crude can be processed in traditional refineries and meet Environmental Protection Agency standards under the Clean Air Act.

The US Department of Defense has awarded jet fuel contracts to a range of suppliers, including Shell, ExxonMobil and Valero, totaling in excess of $5 billion.

Canadian power company Fortis has agreed to buy Arizona-focused utility UNS Energy for around $2.5bln. The offer price is more than 30% above UNS’ closing share price over its Wednesday close. The southwestern United States is experiencing above-average economic growth, according to Fortis.

First Wind has agreed to sell Burlington Electric Department (BED) – a Vermont Utility – 25 percent of the power and renewable energy certificates (RECs) generated at the 54 MW Hancock Wind project located near Ellsworth, Maine for the next 10 years, according to a release.

SolarCity has completed its $158 million purchase of Zep Solar, which will operate as an independent business unit of SolarCity.

Australia’s Oil Search is in talks to buy a stake in InterOil‘s natural gas discoveries in Papua New Guinea. InterOil recently announced the sale of a 61.3% interest in Petroleum Retention License 15, which contains the Elk-Antelope gas fields, to France’s Total in a deal that could be worth up to $3.6 bln.

The governments of Malaysia and Brunei have signed a series of oil and gas deals that would give Brunei a stake in Malaysian state-owned Petronas‘ Canadian LNG export project and ease progress on joint development of the Kinabalu West NAG field, Maharaja Lela North Panel, Gumusut-Kakap, Geronggong and Jagus-East fields.
