GE and Shell have been close partners in overseas development, particularly in gas and oil drilling.

In this video, Shell Nigeria Exploration and Production Company’s Donald Sabatini talks about how Shell is using GE equipment to move from shallow to deeper oil and gas reserves in Nigeria and how important that relationship has been for development.

Sabatini explains that Shell is focusing on training local workers and giving them skills for future employment as well. This will keep the “knowledge in-country,” he said. The World Bank has also been trying to train workers in developing countries as it builds alternative energy plants in Tunisia and Morocco.

As oil and gas firms as well as renewables companies expand international development, training and development of local economies remains an often controversial issues firms are grappling with.
